Boarding, Breeding, Foaling, Lessons, and Training

Golden Venture Farm is set on 20 meticulously cared for acres in Brandywine, Maryland. In addition, there are several miles of trails that we have access to ride on. We have large pastures available in a variety of sizes, all with Nelson automatic waterers, and large run-in sheds.

Horses are placed together in the field in small groups depending on the horses age, sex, temperament, size of pasture, and other issues at GVF discretion. We have a newly renovated barn with addition, with 11 stalls, a wash stall, feed room, tack room, and a hay loft. Stalls are 12x12 and 14x16 for expectant mares and/or foals. Horses are stalled in inclement weather. They are brought in at night during the winter (50 deg below), and stay in during the day, during the summer time (90 deg+ with fans and ample fresh water), as we prefer to let horses be horses and be outside as long as possible. Horses have fresh supply of clean water at all times. A mineral blocks also avail 24/7.

Also on site is a 80' x 210' full size riding ring, with jumps. The footing is a natural sand base with great drainage making riding even after a deluge of rain immediately possible. Additionally, is plenty of wonderful open space to take the horses out cross country schooling and trail ride.

For the safety of the horses, we have recently added two front gates at the entrance of the barn & around trailer parking, to ensure that horses do not leave the property during an accident.

Horses are fed quality selected grain, alfalfa and/or orchard hay, and owner supplied supplements, are fed twice a day.

Golden Venture Farm also offers breeding/foaling services and has over 15 years experience. Not only do we handle the actual foaling, we also imprint the foals and work with foal handling right from the start. In case of emergency, we also work with a very local Vet (S.M.E.V.S.) located within 5 minutes from the farm, who is on call 24/7 during breeding and foaling season.

Lessons And Training

Tawna King riding "Traveller"

Lessons are given by Tawna King. Tawna has over 20 years of riding experience, in dressage (with training up to 4th level), jumping (competed in local open jumper and hunter circuits), competed through training level eventing, and is a graduate "B" US pony clubber.

"I believe in any discipline, a solid foundation is needed to allow the horse and rider to communicate with each other to perform their best. I take as much time that is needed to ensure proper understanding of the aids. While progression up the levels is the constant goal, I will not compromise the quality of training for a quick fix. Solid training of the horse and rider is a must for preparation towards the show ring."
