All 2010 foals have arrived! All black based!

Saint Sandro is a incredible 'small' dressage prospect with Rhythm, Power, Swing, Elasticity, and SUSPENSION. He is very compact and should excel in upper level dressage work.

J. M. commented on Saint Sandro's conformation, type, and build to be exceptionally suited towards collected work, specifically excited to say "...with his conformation, his piaffe and passage should be Extraordinary!!". J.M. is an International FEI trainer and competitor who has worked with Saint Sandro under saddle.

Saint Sandro accepted into training with FEI Olympic trainer Dr. Cesar Parra's program at Piaffe-Performance!!

Their website can be found at: http://piaffe-performance.com/

He will stay at least through his OLDna inspection and under saddle classes at Dressage at Devon.

Training:

Saint Sandro started his under saddle training Spring 2010 under the tutelage of an FEI dressage trainer. He has since returned home and is now in consistent training at GVF. Plans are to prepare Saint Sandro for the Materiel class at Devon as well as 30 or 70 days test fall at 3 or 4 years of age and only once mature. Saint Sandro will only be presented when ready as we do not believe in rushing training or testing until mentally and physically mature.

Additional info, photos, and video pertaining to his under saddle training and showing will be continually updated as they become available.

RPSI Status: Saint Sandro is currently activated for breeding in RPSI Book II.

Saint Sandro was presented for evaluation at 27 months (2yrs, 3mo.) of age. The RPSI stallion minimum age requirement is 30 months (2yrs, 6mo.) and underage colts can be "evaluated" to determine if they have the potential for approval once of age. In a rare instance, after evaluation, the inspector was impressed enough to grant "early approval" entrance to Book II, with assurance he was the quality required for Book I. The official orders were then to represent when of official age for Book I. Saint Sandro will be presented fall of 10' for his Book I approval. Once approved any offspring in book II presented prior to Saint Sandro's "of age" Book I approval that are eligible for book I will be moved up accordingly.

Saint Sandro on his 2nd Birthday:

Color status:

A few breeders have inquired as to Saint Sandro's homozygous black status. As of date we have not yet confirmed this, although the genes are in place for strong possibility for EE. Plans are to send off hair samples to determine genetic color markers. We do not feel this is of imperative significance, but due to the numerous inquiries will proceed with testing to answer this current unknown. We feel if this is important to our clients, it is worth investigating for the answer.

Size information:

Saint Sandro's Arabian dam SES Hailey was specifically used to "bring down" and refine the size on the known "largeness" of Sandro Hit lined stallions (all known to be big bodied and17-18 hands).  Result = Saint Sandro. A reasonably sized option for mare owners looking for a smaller Sandro Hit lined option for their mare. Currently Saint is 15.2 as a coming 3 yr old (Last measurement taken Jan 10') and we expect him to mature fully into a reasonably 'smaller sized" 15.2-16 hands.

OLDna inspector 'EB' privately evaluated Saint Sandro stating "I would keep him whole and present him for approvals." and that "the Arab blood would be of great interest and benefit to breeders for refinement". In addition, he informed us that "just earlier today a mare owner was asking for suggestions on a 'smaller dressage stallion' and this guy would be a perfect option for the future".

Breeding opportunities are available to select mares only. We are specifically interested in breeding to WB, Arab, TB, and "sporthorse" type mares. Other breeds, as well as grade mares, welcomed to inquire about breeding. All mares will be equally evaluated and accepted on an individual basis. Discounts to be extended to proven mares.

The judges were extremely impressed with Saint. There were over 56 individual horses entered in the show. It was pouring rain all day long, but Saint handled things just as his names indicates!! Saint was the highest scoring horse out of all shown that day. This is very impressive for a just turned 2 year old to win overall the top two placings of the entire show, against all horses. The Champion and Reserve overall high scores again validate his consistent Quality, Movement, Temperament, Type, and Correctness.

Saint Sandro's Sire: Stedinger - 17.3 Oldenburg

Stedinger was the radiant and unequivocal approval winner of the 2002 Oldenburg Stallion Days. He is a large framed young stallion, with an impressive overall appearance and is highly elastic in every respect. Stedinger is one of the best of his age class regarding his jumping performance. His sire Sandro Hit was federal champion six-year old dressage horse in 1999 and world champion of the young horses in Arnheim. In the meantime, he has become one of the most sought after contemporary sires in the world.

Stedinger is a charming, beautiful and very correct stallion. He is one of the best all around athletes that you can imagine, with gorgeous movement and super form over fences. He should be an excellent addition to the "D" and "R" lines to bring in the blood of Sandro and Landadel, with their jumper talents adding to the athleticism of the modern dressage horse.

Stedinger

Stedinger's Sire: Sandro Hit

Sandro Hit absolved his stallion performance test in Medingen in 1997 and in 1999 Sandro Hit became a star under the guidance of Dr Ulf Möller, the manager of the PSI dressage barn. The pair won the six year old dressage championship at the Bundeschampionate, and also the World Championship at Arnheim that year. Despite the versatility of his sire, on his breeding most people would expect that Sandro Hit would have been headed for the jumping ring – trouble was, he couldn’t jump, but Ulf Möller found the way to bring out his dressage ability and establish a new dressage dynasty.
He is now a revolution in the dressage breeding world. He is really stamping his offspring, producing uphill horses with outstanding rideability.

Sandro Hit has sired the Bundeschampionate winners: Poetin, Showtime, San Rubin and Sir Donnerhall, as well as Grand Prix World Cup qualififier winner, Salieri with Victoria Max-Theurer. One of his first sons, Samba Hit (full brother to World Champion, Poetin) is a very successful competitor at Prix St Georgres / Inter I level.

In the 2007 Hanoerian Stallion Book, Sandro Hit, is recorded at the sire of 507 competition horses, with winnings of Euro 84,935, with 5 'S' level progeny. His FN raninkgs are 140 (dressage) and 96 (jumping). On the Hanoverian rankings, his is equal 10th for type, with 146, with a dressage ranking of 130 as against a jumping index of 92. He scores well for canter (147) and trot (142).

Sandro Hit

Sandro Hit’s Dam: Loretta has been an excellent stallion producer – bred to Don Schufro, she produced Diamond Hit who was Reserve World Champion Five Year Old Dressage horse and Bundeschampion in 2002; bred to the Rohdiamant son, Royal Dance, she produced Royal Hit, the 1-c premium stallion of the 2002 Oldenburg stallion licensing. Loretta is by Ramino, who was champion of his performance test at Adelheidsdorf in 1983. He stood in Oldenburg from 1983 to 1987, while at the same time competing in show jumping with Melanie Kötter. The pair won team gold at the European Junior Championship in 1987, before he joined up with the Italian rider, Loris Pujatti, again with international success.

Loretta's Sire: Ramino has proven an exceptional sire of broodmares – he is the damsire of the jumping stallion, Gio Granno; the 1997 Oldenburg licensing winner, Ronaldo, and his full-brother, Rubin Star W, who won his stallion performance test and was a finalist at the Bundeschampionate; Sergeant Pepper, two time Bundeschampionate finalist is also out of a Ramino mare. Loretta’s dam, Lassie is by Welt As who was the sire of international show jumping star, Leroy Brown, and dressage star, Bonfire.

Ramino

Sandro Hit's Sire: Sandro Song is by the influential Oldenburg based, Holsteiner stallion, Sandro. Sandro competed in international showjumping competition with Franke Sloothaak. Sandro Song is out of Antenne II by Gepard, who left a lasting imprint on Paul Schockemöhle’s mare band – Gepard was a son of the great sire of showjumpers, Gotthard. The grand-dam Antenne won numerous Grand Prix with George Ahlmann. Her sire, Adlerorden was a top jumping sire in Westfalia, siring stars like Argonaut 7 with Bernard Kamps.
Sandro Song is one of the few stallions to have been both Champion Oldenburg Junior Stallion as well as main premium winner. He himself competed in both dressage and show jumping to intermediate level.

Sandro Song

Stedinger's Dam: Verband premium mare Bold-Fantasy scored an excellent mare performance test with a free jumping score of 10.00, a guest rider score of 9.0 and an overall score of 8.67. She is a full-sister of the approved Lamar H, who is himself a successful dressage sports horse. The maternal bloodline is directly linked to all the greats of Oldenburg breeding history through Landadel (by Landgraf I), Futuro and Adonis xx. The Oldenburg foundation line of the mare Besinda (by Orient-Hildebald etc.) also brought forth the approved full-brothers Andrew (successes up to Grand Prix) and Armagnac, as well as the multiple advanced dressage sports winner and approval champion Waldsee. This bloodline also produced Tansanid, who won the the silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games under Christine StŸckelberger. The grandam gave birth to many successful show jumpers, dressage horses and cross-country eventing horses.

Landadel                     Landgraf I

Saint Sandro's Dam: SES Hailey - Approved ISR/OLDna  MMB - 14 hand Arabian (where Saint gets his "small" genes from)

Hailey is GVF's "Little" mare. She is a TRUE sportpony and an incredible mover. Sainto Sandro promises to stay a reasonable size because of her 14 hand genes. All of her foals have been gorgeous, correct, extremely athletic, and have incredible minds. She is a continual champion producing mare. Saint Sandro being her nicest yet to date. Her arab pedigree is impeccable with all of her grandparents being bred and owned by 2 late great Arabian breeding programs: Severn farm in MD (now breeding welsh), and the Rollingwood farm in VA. She is bred for sport and carries old foundation performance blood. The old lined Arabs were small. This is where Hailey receives her athleticism from.

Hailey's OLDna inspection comments were "wonderful type. very correct, nice impulsion/suspension, etc..". The only negative being her size- but not enough of a concern as they bumped her to the Main Mare HORSE book. It was specifically because of her size, we felt she was an option in attempts to "bring down" the size on the known "largeness" of 99% of the Sandro Hit lined stallions (all known to be in the 17-18 hand range).  Result = Saint Sandro. A reasonably sized option for mare owners looking for a smaller 16 hand Sandro Hit lined option for their mare.

SES Hailey

Arabian Pedigree Sporthorse info on SES Hailey:

Overall, quite a few of Hailey's pedigree elements can be found in a number of sport type Arabians. Although the sire line is Egyptian the majority of Hailey's pedigree is CMK. http://cmkarabians.com/articles/CMKIdentity.html The pedigree reflects a primary focus on producing athletic horses through a number of respected breeding programs. (Never Die, Rollingwood, Al-Marah, Selby Stud, Gainey, etc.) And yes, there are multiple lines to *Raffles.

*Raffles is behind many athletic Arabians (--including the line bred Raffles stallion Winraff who was trained to upper level dressage by Gina Manion. Winraff was the sire of the intensely line bred Raffles stallion, JR Lyraff, the Arabian great grandsire of the late great pony, Theodore O'Connor). In addition to the lines to *Raffles, there is a line to Rissalix (through the great *Count Dorsaz) and one to Oran (through *Silver Vanity). Several horses of the Oran/Rissalix nick were trained to upper level dressage in the late 60's-70's era (including Golden Wings who competed internationally for the UK and was then a schoolmaster for Jennie Loriston-Clarke. The Raffles/Rissalix nick has also produced several dressage horses (like Gina Manion's Count Thirteen and the ATA approved Al-Marah Quebec). Notably, in Hailey's pedigree, Rafmirz (a *Raffles son born in 1940) was trained to GP dressage decades before the discipline was popular in the US.
